Photography School Options: Semester 2

The BA Photography School Options for 2021 are described below. These are the options for the second and third year students.

Please read them carefully and add these through enrolment online.

Fine Art Course Options
You can also consider Fine Art Workshop classes or ART: History+Theory+Cultures classes as School Options. These are managed by Fine Art.
Semester 2
Workshops: will be preferenced via online form. Details will be available later in Semester 1. 
ART:History+Theory+Cultures: in Sem 2 ART2 and ART3 will be available and there will be a choice of classes, which will be preferenced via online form.

IMPORTANT – You must not repeat school options. Although we would like to offer all of the courses below, courses are subject to viability and may not run if numbers are too low.

This course introduces you to the beginnings of Photography to the present day. You will examine the early photographers exploring the chemical and physical phenomena that define the medium of photography. You will also explore the techniques, processes, history, and cultural connections that are such a significant part of photography. The studio will be presented through a variety of activities including workshops, darkroom, experimentation, lectures, critical analysis, discussion, practice, presentation and reflection.

In this course you will develop conceptual strategies for refining visual communication narratives for target audiences, explore industry illustrative styles and apply advanced image editing skills in the production of images to meet conceptual objectives. 

You will be able to evaluate the effectiveness and the communication potential of your digital images and make effective use of presentation skills to visually communicate ideas and concepts.

In this course, you will participate in an internship or artist in residence program in an arts, photographic or cultural organisation, company, festival, commercial industry, gallery, museum or studio, through dual negotiation with the industry and School. You will be expected to work as directed by the host organisation, to address and solve real-world issues in an arts industry workplace environment. 
 
This is a Work Integrated Learning course designed to facilitate a practical working relationship between you and selected arts and cultural organizations.

The course aims to further enhance the skills and professional requirements of commercial photographic practice on location. You will be required to investigate and observe multiple locations. You will identify and propose appropriate visual narratives that will examine and interpret the lighting and design elements of your chosen locations. You will capture images that demonstrate technical control of digital workflows and lighting control with an emphasis on creativity and interpretation. You will present your work and justify the outcomes achieved. The assignments lead to self direction and independence.

In this course you will explore the digital fine print, its tradition and practice in the age of digital reproduction. Sophisticated digital imaging techniques are investigated to expand upon the tradition of the print. You will explore photographic and/or printmaking histories in ways that inform a contemporary digital print imaging practice and employ advanced digital skills to make prints of the finest quality.
